Stuttering is a communication disorder in which the flow of speech is broken by repetitions (li-li-like this), prolongations (lllllike this), or abnormal stoppages (no sound) of sounds and syllables. There may also be unusual facial and body movements associated with the effort to speak.

Some children show dysfluencies that are developmental in nature, and do not require speech therapy to help. However, some children who stutter require a speech-language pathologist to help them learn techniques to speak more fluently.

It is important to contact a speech-language pathologist to determine if your child is going through a typical period of dysfluency, or if therapy is necessary. Buckhead Speech Specialists utilizes several therapy techniques for fluency therapy.
